Like Armour is a clear thermoplastic acrylic lacquer with outstanding adhesion to bare metals. It is suitable for polished copper, brass, silver & aluminium preventing tarnishing and oxidation of the surface.
The acrylic polymer has a unique molecular structure that locks it into the surface of bare metals. This property is not found in other acrylic polymers. The lacquer contains a corrosion inhibitor that is chemically absorbed onto the surface of copper and copper alloys, i.e. brass, bronze. The corrosion inhibitor also reduces attacks on aluminium, steel, cadmium, zinc silver etc.
Laboratory comparisons with thermoplastic acrylic lacquers regarded as being suitable for use on bare metals showed that LIKE ARMOUR is superior in the following properties:
1. Knife adhesion after 24 months weathering (the clear film resists peeling
from base metal if scratched).
2. Hardness film is harder (air dried conditions).
3. Flexibility clear lacquer resists chipping.
4. Print resistance resists transfer of printed materials on to clear
film pressure 14kp at 60° for 1 hour.
5. Block resistance two clear coated oven cured films, placed face
to face under contact pressure 42kp at 60° for 16 hours.
6. Salt spray resistance.
7. Retention of gloss on 3000 hours Xenon arc weathering.
One outstanding feature of Like Armour is the ability to apply
this LACQUER WITH A BRUSH. This feature is attributed to the unique blend
of solvents and levelling agents used in Like Armour. It is also
possible to spray the lacquer or dip items into the lacquer. For optimum long-term
weathering and corrosion resistance a clear film build of 25 microns is recommended.
Like Armour lacquer is normally touch dry in 15-20 minutes and
reaches a satisfactory hardness after 24 hours of air-drying.
For industrial applications, the lacquer may be baked at temperatures up to 150°C with no yellowing or reduction in physical characteristics. Baking will increase hardness and resistance to solvents. It is recommended that baking is done in the range 80°C - 150°C.
The clear film of lacquer can be removed by vigorously brushing or soaking the article in thinners.

Like Armour, is also manufactured for outside application where the article is exposed to sunlight.
